Hi, Should the quality of the lie influence iron/hybrid selection or do they react with turf in a similar way?

    1. Andy

Hi Shane. Yes the quality of the lie is the first step in choosing club selection. The iron will cut through the rough better than a hybrid.

      Thanks

      Andy

  2. Shane

Cheers Andy, Just started using a hybrid recently. I assumed the hybrid would be better in rough as it was longer and traveled faster but I guess the edge of the iron effectively cuts through the gras…

    1. Andy

Exactly Shane. Sometimes you may get away with it but the lie needs to be decent.

      Thanks

      Andy

  3. akalur

hey Andy, could you guys provide some statistics on how far should one be hitting the hybrids and how far do pros hit?

  4. kanchi

Andy, Piers – I am pretty good with my irons but can never get the ball to launch with my 3 hybrid. Many folks have advised me to play it like an iron which I have to remember every time since it just…

    1. Andy

      Thanks

      Andy

      1. kanchi

Thanks for the response, Andy. With the hybrid I tend to ‘sweep’ the ball on the up by bottoming out the club sooner like a driver. So, I end up thinning the shot and/or not making good contact at all…

        1. Andy

If you tend to sweep too much up then try these things. Move the ball slightly further back in the stance, place more weight on the lead leg, and really ensure that you allow the club to brush the gro…
